Brain-computer interfaces use some specific pattern of EEGs such as P300 (a typical event related potential: positive potential 300ms after an event), SSVEP (steady-state visual evoked potential), and ERD/ERS (event-related de-synchronization / event-related synchronization). We had developed a driving simulator which is steered by SSVEP. The purpose of this study was to see ERD/ERS during hand movements and their imagery for developing ERD/ERS-utilized speed control for the brain-computer-interface driving simulator. We found clear ERD in contra-lateral cortex after 9-days learning of motion imagery. We developed the driving simulator equipped with ERD speed control, and showed a driver could control the speed of car. |
