The augmentation of virtual images on endoscopic images without spoiling the information is a significant issue to be solved for surgical navigation. This paper proposes a method of dynamic transparency control according to the distance between endoscopy and a target object in the operation. The method balances the understanding of both the structure information of the target object in the virtual images and the surface information seen in the endoscopic images. The pattern of transparency distribution applied to the local area of endoscopic images changes dynamically with the distance between the endoscopy and the target object. This paper reports the results of basic experiments using a phantom for the area of kidney endoscopic surgery. |
