The concern with the mobile WiMAX system, which is one of high speed wireless communication techniques, has been growing recently.It is, however, necessary to estimate the time-variant channel accurately in order to equalize the received signal from the moving vehicular at high speed.In this paper, we propose a novel channel estimation algorithm using
the Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm for the uplink PUSC(Partial Usage of SubChannels) mode of the mobile WiMAX system in the time-varying multi-path channels.The proposed algorithm estimates the channel frequency responses on the data signal carriers based on the estimated channel frequency responses on the pilot signal carriers. We assume that the estimates of the channels on the data signal carriers are given by a linear combination of the estimates of the channels on the pilot signal carriers and determine the coefficient of the combination using the EM algorithm.By computer simulations, we evaluate performances of the proposed algorithm by comparing with the conventional linear interpolation algorithm. |
