[Tutorial Lecture] Standardization on Ethernet ring protection switching in ITU-T SG15

(in English) Recently Ethernet technology is widely used in backbone networks of connection services provided by carriers. Based on this background, the mechanisms which improve scalability, interface speed, reliability and operability of Ethernet technology are standardized in IEEE and the other standard bodies. ITU-T SG15 standardized Rec. G.8032/Y.1344 which provides Ethernet Ring Protection Switching for multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity in June 2008. Also Amendment 1 for Rec. G.8032/Y.1344 was agreed to go forward to approval process in December 2008. This paper introduces the detail regarding to Rec. G.8032/Y.1344 and further items of Ethernet Ring Protection Switching mechanisms.
