The indoor power line communication (PLC) suffers from impulsive noise generated by home appliances. The impulsive noise can be described as the bursty noise among several symbols for high-rate PLC employing M-ary modulation. Such bursty and impulsive noise can be widely applied as noise on a hidden Markov model for high-rate PLC. In this manuscript, we investigate the iterative decoding of M-ary modulation signals over hidden Markov noise channels. We evaluate the iterative decoding performance for structured LDPC codes, which are exploited for the digital broadcasting standard DVB S.2 of ETSI, and M-ary QAM (quadrature amplitude modualtion) signals. We clarify the importance of detecting metric for hidden Markov noise channels and investigate the difference between Gray mapping and binary mapping in decoding performance and the effectiveness of bit interleaver. |
