A CFAR Circuit of Detecting Spatially Correlated Target for Automotive UWB Radars
Satoshi Takahashi (Hiroshima City Univ.) CS2008-62
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Future high-resolution short-range automotive radar encounters a higherfalse alarm probability than the conventional low-resolution radar does. In a high resolution radar, the reception signal becomes sensitive to the shape of desired targets and undesired background objects. On the other hand, automotive radars determine targets from background objects that are of the same orders of the dimensional magnitude; it leads to an increase in the false alarm probability. In this paper, a CFAR circuit of obtaining the target mean power, as well as the background mean power, is proposed to reduce the false alarm probability for high resolution radars operating in automotive environments. The performance is evaluated in terms of the power ratio of target and background objects at the same false alarm probability and at the same detection probability. Spatial correlation is also considered in the evaluation, because the dimensions of the both target and background objects correspond to that of several range cells. Result shows that the proposed CFAR with only a slight resolution degradation of the additional two range cells could reduce the ratio of 6.4 dB for uncorrelated target and background objects and 4.0 dB for correlated ones.
