[Invited Talk] The State of the art of ITU-R studies on Cognitive Radio Systems

(in English) World Radiocommunication Conference 2007 (WRC-07) set Agenda Item 1.19 “to consider regulatory measures and their relevance, in order to enable the introduction of software-defined radio (SDR) and cognitive radio systems (CRS)”. In response to this, International Telecommunications Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) has started a study on SDR and CRS in preparation for WRC-11. ITU-R WP1B (Working Party 1B) is currently developing definitions for SDR and CRS as well as regulatory implications with regard to ITU-R Radio Regulations. On the other hand, ITU-R WP 5A is undertaking a technical study on CRS in terms of its technical characteristics, requirements, applications and potential benefits. In this paper, the state of the art of ITU-R studies on CRS is presented.
