Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Left-handed transmission line supports waves with anti-parallel phase and group velocities. It has peculiar characteristic of backward leaky-wave radiation. Generally, we have phase delay in transmitting along the ordinary transmission lines. The traveling phase delay is canceled by the phase perturbation due to the periodic structure in transmission line and more phase advance achieves feature of left-handed transmission line. The purpose of this research is to improve design flexibility of array
antenna operating on traveling-wave excitation. Beam direction can be controled by phase change caused by transmitting through the periodic structure in slotted waveguide. We have developed a slot array antenna with a left-handed waveguide. The antenna was composed of slots on a left-handed waveguide in which pairs of capacitive series stub on H-plane and inductive iris are periodically arranged to give the phase advance in the waveguide. However electromagnetic band gap was generated and there was a limit in the controlling dispersion property of wavelength. The design flexibility of dispersion property of wavelength is improved and bandgap frequency band is eliminated by close arrangement of periodic structure continuous beam-scanning confirmed by simulation in this paper.
