[Invited Talk] Spectrum-Sharing Issues of Wireless Access Systems in the 5GHz Band

(in English) In 1997, the 5GHz band was allocated as the Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) band for wireless access systems in the U.S.A. in addition to the 2.4GHz ISM band. At the same time, a need for 5GHz band wireless access systems had been grown up in Japan and Europe. 5GHz band are very crowded with many wireless systems such as weather radar systems, medium earth orbit satellite communication systems, synthetic aperture radar systems onboard satellites and micro wave wireless relay systems. Spectrum-sharing issues between wireless access systems and other systems were the hottest topics from 1997 to 2002 in Japan. The purpose of this presentation is to review the spectrum-sharing issues which were discussed in the 5GHz bands, and to suggest some solutions for the future spectrum-sharing issues.
The following items are presented.
(1) spectrum-sharing between wireless access and medium earth orbit satellite systems in the 5.15-5.25GHz band
(2) spectrum-sharing between wireless access and weather radar and synthetic aperture radar systems onboard satellites in the 5.25-5.35GHz band
(3) spectrum-sharing between wireless access and micro wave relay systems in the 4.9-5.0GHz
(4) spectrum-sharing between different kind of wireless access systems in the same band
