We successfully fabricated SQUIDs with multilayer structures using high-Tc superconductors (HTS). Use of ramp-edge Josephson junctions enables us to make SQUIDs at desired positions in a chip. Employing multilayer structures, the devices can be arranged in a rather limited area. We fabricated a garadiometer array in a chip and investigated its feasibility for non-destructive evaluation of YBCO coated-conductors striated to achieve low AC-losses. A test piece comprising an upper Cu-tape and a lower YBCO thin film was prepared. When the piece was examined at ambient temperature, SQUID signals from defects in the Cu-tape were detected. On the other hand, signals from defects in YBCO were clearly observed when the piece was cooled at 77 K. This indicated that defects in a Ag-stabilizing layer and a superconducting one can be detected separately by controlling the sample temperature. |
