Monitoring DNS Cache Poisoning Attacks

(in English) In this paper, we propose a method to detect the new type of DNS cache poisoning attack, which was discovered July 2008 by Dan Kaminsky. Most of the DNS cache server implementation is vulunerable to this type
of attack, and the effect of cache poisoning is significant, taking countermeasures for this attacks is imperative. The immediate countermeasure is to make cache servers resilient againt forged answers by randomize source port numbers, while ultimate one is introducing electoric signature system as DNSSEC. Besides these measures, monitoring
DNS traffic and detect attacks is also important. Kaminsky’s attack uses many forged answers to poison, and as a results, many answers that are not correspond to any queries. We propose a method to detect those answers by using Bloom filters. Because those answers can be sent by other than attacks, we also propose a method to calculate risks to be poisoned and alert attacks by using the risks.
