Direction estimation using square lattice for cadastral map assembling

(in English) The technique for automatically assembling the cadastral map separately drawn in each district has been developed. After estimating and normalizing direction of the map, those techniques assemble the map. It causes the error and the failure of the map assembling when there is estimation error of direction. Therefore, accuracy improvement of direction estimation is needed. In a past technique, a direction was
estimated using the north arrow in the map. However, only one north arrow is drawn in the map. Therefore, the estimation error of about $\pm 0.5$ degree on the average is caused by the drawing error of the north arrow. In the proposed technique, direction estimation is performed by the square lattice regularly plotted in the map in addition to the north arrow. Because about tens of square lattices are drawn in the map, the drawing error is less than the north arrow. In the proposed technique, the noise is removed by the area of connected element with the expansion/shrinking processing as a preprocessing of direction estimation. Then, direction estimation is done detecting the square lattice by using the Merlin-Farber method. As a result of the experiment, direction estimation is performed successfully in 485 cadastral maps.
