Underground Imaging Using Shear Waves -- Study on the chirp waves by considered the instantaneously frequency attenuation --
Hiraku Kawasaki, Tsuneyoshi Sugimoto (Toin Univ. of Yokohama) US2008-94
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In order to detect the buried relics and ruins at shallow depth, we have proposed a method by using shear waves. This paper examines the effect of the pulse compression processing for improving the underground imaging resolution. Using a super-magnetostriction vibrator which can change waveforms and use high frequency waves, we generate both chirp waves and ordinary burst waves.
To confirm the size of each simulated image, the half width of each image’s amplitude is measured. Then, an exploration experiment is carried out where the buried position has already been known. As these results, improvement of the image resolution was effective by considering the attenuation of the instantaneously frequency in the pulse compression.
