Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Long-lived UDP traffic for multimedia communications have grown greatly in recent years. However, as UDP does not implement any congestion control, bandwidth of networks may be easily occupied by UDP flows and burdens access of other traffic which implements congestion control. In multi-hop ad hoc networks, not only bandwidth is scarce, but bandwidth varies by current topology. Therefore, a datagram protocol with congestion control is desirable for adapting changes in multi-hop ad hoc networks. DCCP (Datagram Congestion Control Protocol) has been proposed recently to adjust its traffic in response to its networks. DCCP CCID2 is based on TCP’s congestion control for transmitting unreliable data. However, it has been well-known that TCP suffers a huge degradation in multi-hop ad hoc networks due to its window-based congestion control. In this paper, we propose a new Adaptive Rate Datagram Protocol (ARDP) to deliver datagram and timely data in multi-hop ad hoc networks. The simulation results show that ARDP does not only achieve better throughput and fairness than DCCP CCID2, but guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) assurance in multi-hop ad hoc networks as well.
