We have proposed a bandwidth-based TCP congestion control mechanism with an inline network measurement technique. The proposed method, named as TCP Symbiosis, controls the window size based on the bandwidth information unlike the standard TCP and the recent works on loss-based, delay-based and hybrid congestion control mechanisms. TCP Symbiosis has the effectiveness in terms of average throughput, scalability to the bandwidth-delay product, convergence time, stability, and fairness among connections. However, the performance of TCP Symbiosis highly depends on the measurement results of available bandwidth and environmental changes. In this paper, we redesign TCP Symbiosis to deal with the measurement error and environmental change. First, we propose the dynamic parameter setting algorithm based on the variance of the measured available bandwidth. Second, for the purpose of absorbing the ill-effect of environmental change, we intensionally add self-induced oscillation to the congestion window size of TCP connection. We confirm that the proposed method has the effectiveness without change in the basic nature of TCP Symbiosis. |
