Minimum BER-based MIMO-OFDM Precoding Scheme under Co-Channel Interference

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In a MIMO-OFDM downlink system, a reception scheme that performs the maximum likelihood detection using spatio-temporal filters to supress co-channel interference has been investigated. To further improve bit error rate (BER) performance of the reception scheme, this report applies a linear precoding method that performs linear processing on transmitted signals. For reducing the amount of feedback information from the receiver to the transmitter, the both sides share a set of precoding matrices, {\it i.e.} codebook. The receiver selects the precoding matrix that minimizes the BER performance and forwards the index of the matrix to the transmitter. The proposed scheme employs the product of the phase rotation matrices and the rotation matrices as the codebook and applies the same precoding matrix to all subcarriers in a block. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed scheme requires much less feedback information than the minimum BER-based precoding without any codebooks, while incurring little degradation of the BER performance.
