Words with inadequate pitch accents activate the medial frontal gyrus: An event-related fMRI study
Ikuyo Katsuse (Kinki Univ.) SP2008-145
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, a lot of researches have reported that motor areas were activated by passive speech perception. In this research, we investigated neural responses to words with inadequate pitch accent types (INADEQUATE), normal words (NORMAL), and pseudowords (PSEUDO). As the result, for the contrast of INADEQUATE versus NORMAL, the inferior frontal region and the medial frontal region were active. The activation in the inferior frontal region was also observed for the contrast of PSEUDO versus NORMAL.
