Reducing Range Finding Error in NRD Guide Pulse Radar System using VCXO with Low Jitter at 60GHz

(in English) A pulse radar front-end using an NRD-guide technology was fabricated as a tank level sensor at millimeter wave lengths, and range finding was performed by using it. The measurement error to be ±15cm was however bigger than the theoretical one of few mms. In this paper, it was predicted that the measured error was due to generating clocks for the radar system by using a PLL embedded into an FPGA, so that a VCXO (Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator) with high stability performance was employed to overcome such difficulty. We could decrease the measurement error within ±2cm by using it.
