A new sensor system for measuring the Bragg wavelength distribution in a long-length fiber Bragg grating was proposed recently. It is based on the technique called synthesis of optical coherence function (SOCF) which is one of the techniques for reflectometry. By measuring the Bragg-wavelength distribution in the grating, it is possible to know the strain or temperature distribution. In the process of evaluating the performance of the sensing system, it is found that the reflectivity of the FBGs needs to be lower for realizing the distributed sensor with sufficient accuracy by the simulation. In this paper, the relation between the reflectivity and the measurement accuracy is verified by the experiment. Besides, a measurement speed is an important factor for the health-monitoring technique. We also demonstrate the measurement of local reflection spectrum with 1-kHz sampling rate for one position. |
