A Study of Multicast Encryption Key Management Suitable for Frequent Member Replacement

(in English) In this paper, the suitability of multicast encryption key management method for actual business IT systems such as surveillance system and next generation wireless communication system are studied and evaluated. The basic characteristics of 3 existing multicast group key management methods, binary tree base method, threshold encryption base method, and pairing encryption base method, are evaluated. To evaluate and compare these methods of different particularity, a common criterion of “key renewal delay” is introduced. Especially for the binary tree base method which shows the best key renewal delay characteristics, the frequency of tree reconstruction required by member replacement is evaluated. The way to shorten the communication gap, which is occurred by the key renewal delay in wireless communication system, is proposed and evaluated.
