A new walking method, called “pole-walking in water (PWIW)” was proposed. The effectiveness of exercise was examined in the experiments with 60 cm and 100 cm water depth. Higher effectiveness of PWIW than conventional “walking in water” was demonstrated in the measurements of the oxygen uptake, the heart rate and the ECG. The characteristics of PWIW were clarified in the comparison with the “pole-walking on the ground”. In the measurement with the patients of ischemic heart diseases, the safety and the applicability of PWIW to clinical rehabilitation were confirmed. |
