Brain activations elicited by transparent motion stimuli during depth-based attention: An MEG study

(in English) When two visual patterns drifting in different directions are superimposed on the same plane, observers perceive transparent surfaces on different depth planes. This phenomenon is known as transparent motion perception. In this study, brain activities during subjects performing a transparent motion perception task were measured by a whole-head MEG system. In the experiments, we have studied the process involved in the determination of depth order in 5 subjects. The MEG results demonstrate that the dorsolateral visual pathways including MT+ and the parietal cortex activates from onset latency of optokinetic eye movement to about 400ms. These activations in early latencies are associated with visual processing during determination of depth order of transparent motion perception.
