A Millimeter-wave Stepped Multiple Frequency Oscillator with Phase Coherency

(in English) An oscillator for stepped multiple frequency interrupted continuous wave radar requires switching stepped multiple frequencies rapidly and keeping the phase coherency. This paper proposes the configuration of the oscillator that is based on the PLO (Phase Locked Oscillator) down-converting the frequency of VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) into phase detection frequency by using mixer, and using the output of DDS (Direct Digital Synthesizer) as a reference signal for rapid frequency switching. Also, the proposed configuration uses a CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) to switch the output frequency of DDS in certain intervals corresponding to the step frequency for keeping the phase coherency. The experimental results of the oscillator at 38GHz band show the rapid frequency lock time of 0.3us and maintaining the phase coherency, and demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed configuration.
