A Study of Frequency-Domain Signal Detection for Multi-Code DS-CDMA Transmission

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In our recent paper, we pointed out that the frequency-domain received signal in the single-carrier (SC) transmissions can be expressed as in the signal transmissions using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multiplexing and we proposed a frequency-domain block signal detection based on various MIMO signal detection schemes for the SC signal transmissions. The frequency-domain received signal in the direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) transmissions can also be expressed using the matrix representation similar to the MIMO multiplexing. In this paper, we extend the previously proposed frequency-domain block signal detection to the multi-code DS-CDMA signal transmissions. Minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection, Vertical-Bell Laboratories layered space-time architecture (V-BLAST) detection, and maximum likelihood detection employing QR decomposition and M-algorithm (QRM-MLD) are considered. When using V-BLAST or QRM-MLD, the detection ordering is introduced based on the signal-to-interference plus noise power ratio (SINR). We evaluate, by computer simulation, the achievable bit error rate (BER) performance of multi-code DS-CDMA using the proposed frequency-domain block signal detection and we discuss the impacts of spreading factor and code multiplexing order on the achievable BER performance.
