A Proposal of Network Layer Congestion Control Scheme in Wireless Mesh Networks

(in English) A main object of mobile station in Wireless Mesh Network is to communicate with the outer network.
As a result, a gateway to connect to the outer network may frequently be congested by traffic from mobile stations.
To solve this problem, we propose a new congestion control method in the network layer. In our proposed method,
backbone nodes monitor their IP queue periodically and detect congestion. When a backbone node detects congestion,
it specifies mobile stations which cause congestion and sends a congestion control message to the backbone nodes which accommodates the mobile stations. When the backbone nodes receive the congestion control message, they control the bandwidth of the traffic destined to the congested node. We have performed simulation of our proposed method using a simple network model and evaluated the effect of congestion control. We have shown that our proposed method is effective to reduce average queue size of the bottle-neck node and to improve total throughput.
