Antenna Calibration by 3-Antenna Method with the In-Phase Synthetic Method

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In antenna calibration, reflected waves from surrounding objects seriously deteriorate the accuracy of the results. To reduce such adverse effects, the present paper proposes the use of the in-phase synthetic method with the conventional three-antenna method (TAM). In this method, S21’s measured at various antenna separation distances are compensated for the amplitude and phase change with the antenna position and accumulated to enhance the wanted direct-wave component in the received wave. The experimental results on calibration of double-ridged guide horn antennas (DRGA) at frequencies above 4 GHz show that the proposed method can yield the actual gain with an error smaller than +0.5 dB/-0.8 dB even at an EMI test site with a metal ground plane.
