A Study on Cooperative Peer Selection Method in P2P Video Delivery

(in English) Recently, the video delivery service is spreading along with the penetration of broadband to ordinary families. Although Content Delivery Network (CDN) system has been deployed for video delivery, equipment reinforcement is needed as a number of client increases. To settle this problem, use of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) system has begun to be explored, namely P2P live-streaming and P2P-VoD (Video on Demand). As for P2P-VoD, two methods are envisaged but both include critical issues. Issue in streaming-based VoD is leaving of upstream peers, and issues in BitTorrent-based VoD, load concentration to server as well as fairness among peers in terms of burdening. This paper focuses on BitTorrent-based VoD, and proposes a sophisticated method to overcome these issues. A tracker selects appropriate cooperating peers at the peer selection phase and participating peers exchange pieces of a video content with fixed restriction at the piece-exchange phase, thus achieves high performance without affecting video replaying.
