In this report, a novel design theory is proposed for reflector antennas fed by defocused arrays, which is based on a Gaussian beam mode. According to the proposed theory, the antenna characteristics such as a gain can be immediately obtained by a closed-form equation once its configuration including a feed array size and a defocusing distance is determined. Comparing with conventional methods such as physical optics, therefore, it can significantly reduce a lot of efforts for the initial or optimized designs. Calculated results by the proposed theory are in good agreements with the ones by the physical optics. Consequently, the effectiveness of the proposed theory has been confirmed. |
