Investigations on optimum spreading factor in MC-CDMA MIMO multiplexing with frequency-domain QRM-MLD

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper investigates an optimum spreading factor in multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) multiplexing with the proposed maximum likelihood detection (MLD), which reduces the computational complexity by using M-algorithm on the received signal after orthogonalization based on the QR decomposition of the product of the channel and spreading code matrices. Since there is a tradeoff relationship between increased frequency diversity and deteriorated accuracy in correct symbol selection in M-algorithm according to the increase in spreading factor value, there should be an optimum spreading factor which achieves minimum bit error rate (BER). From the computer simulation results, when the number of the transmit and receive antennas is 2 and 4 with 16QAM data modulation and the number of surviving symbol replicas per stage in M-algorithm of 128, the best spreading factor is 8 and 4, respectively. By using these best spreading factors, the received signal energy per bit-to-noise spectrum density ratio (Eb/N0) for the average BER of 10-3 is reduced by 6 and 2 dB for 2 and 4-antenna cases, respectively, comparing to the case without spreading.
