Investigations on Constant-Rate ARQ Using Multiple Transmitter Antennas for Multicast Channel

(in English) This paper investigates an constant-rate automatic repeat request (ARQ) for multicast transmissions in the cellular system, in order to improve the transmission quality especially for the terminals near the cell edge. The constant-rate property is important for the multicast transmission, since the predetermined data rate is needed to be kept using given spectrum and transmission power regardless of the use of retransmission. The proposed ARQ scheme utilizes the multiple transmission antennas for achieving the constant-rate ARQ. When we transmit initial packet only, the space time block code (STBC) transmission is used for reliable transmission via space diversity, while the space division multiplexing (SDM) is applied when the initial and retransmission packets are transmitted simultaneously. From the simulation results, the proposed ARQ scheme reduces the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for achieving target bit error rate (BER) comparing to the case without ARQ, especially when the target BER is low such as below 10-4.
