Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ultrasonography today can provide images with uniform brightness at any depth, while the amount of ultrasonic attenuation could be a helpful indicator of some diseases. The amount of ultrasonic attenuation is known to increase linearly with frequency, so we can estimate it by getting the ratio of received signals at two different frequencies. However, 2nd harmonic signals due to nonlinear propagation effects would reduce the accuracy of the attenuation value. In order to suppress the 2nd harmonic signals, two identical pulses with inverted phase were transmitted and the two received signals were subtracted. This process makes it possible to exclude the nonlinear effect, which results in estimating attenuation value with improving accuracy.
