The vibration-based data communication is a new type of near-field data communication method using the propagation of vibration in a data-transmission medium. In the previous work, we introduced a reflective photo-sensor to detect the vibration of the medium. It worked well for detecting the vibration signals and decoding the electric digital data, however, the communication environment was strictly limited in terms of the communication distance and the data transmission rate. To overcome the difficulties, we newly introduce a 3-axis acceleration sensor as a vibration detector instead of the reflective photo-sensor. Furthermore, since this detector and the demodulator could be implemented on a mobile phone, we believe that this communication system will be useful to create a new type of communication style in ubiquitous environments. In this paper, the principle of the variation-based communication with an acceleration sensor, method of the demodulation and improvement of the performance will be discussed. |
