Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transmission technology increases the transmission capacity using the space multiplexing effect. The multiplexing effect can be efficiently used in a multipath rich environment but not well in the free space propagation environment, because of no multipath effect. Consequently, the transmission capacity decreases according with the increase of propagation distance in an environment like the free space. When the radio communication is operated between a base station in macro cell system and a mobile station in a high altitude indoor space on a high-rise building without other buildings around it, the propagation environment corresponds to the free space situation. In this case, the space multiplexing effect in the indoor environment can be used after the transmission capacity decreases in the free space propagation. It is not clarified what transmission capacity will be obtained in those situations. This paper shows the result of MIMO transmission characteristics in outdoor to indoor propagation environments with respect to parameters of transmission distance, size of window, number of window, and so on, when the outdoor propagation is assumed as that in the free space. |
