A study on weak DAD without keys
Yoshiya Nakata, Munehiro Namba (Tokyo Gakugei Univ.) AN2009-20
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Dynamic assignment mechanisms of IP address are requested in mobile
ad hoc networks (MANETs), in which distributed nodes can move, enter,
and leave autonomously. Stateless address assignment requires duplicate
address detection (DAD) although it has an advantage of low latency.
Weak DAD, proposed by Vaidya, is a passive DAD that is achieved by
embedding a pair of IP address and unique key into control messages
of routing protocol. However, it increases the overhead in both bandwidth
and memory consumptions. In this report, we propose a weak DAD without
using any special identifiers. In our method, the address conflict
can be detected by verifying the adresses in received packet's header
because each node is assumed to have a table of IP address and MAC
address pairs within 1-hop neighbor. DAD capability is confirmed by
simulations using the JiST/SWANS wireless network simulator.
