In cognitive radio (CR) system reliable spectrum sensing is the key step to discover spectrum opportunity and exploit it as secondary user. This ensures protection of primary users (PUs) from undesired interference by secondary users (SU). For reliable spectrum sensing, cooperation among individual CR terminals or spectrum sensors becomes essential. The use of commonly known method of cognitive pilot channel (CPC), for the purpose of cooperative sensing, has certain limitation. CPC is primarily intended to disseminate spectrum usage related information for CR terminals residing in a given mesh. Sharing or exchanging of spectrum sensing information may involve closely located CR terminals in which case CPC may not be practical. This paper proposes a novel means of exchanging sensing and related information among CR terminals or between CR terminals and spectrum sensing information sources. We introduce the use of ?auxiliary control channels for spectrum sensing (ACS)- that complements CPC in case of sensing information exchange with in a close range. Additionally, we propose a mechanism of coordination between the CPC and ACS. |
