This paper investigates a restriction scheme of the signal constellation transition in clipping-based peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction techniques in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) taking into account the use of the Turbo coding. Conventional restriction scheme of the signal constellation transition uses the circular limitation so that the transmit signal after PAPR reduction satisfies the target error vector magnitude (EVM) constraint. However, when we consider the application of the soft-decision channel decoding, the achievable performance is determined by the error magnitude in I and Q component of the transmitted signal constellation rather than the EVM. Therefore, we propose a rectangular-based restriction of signal constellation transition. The proposed rectangular-based restriction achieves better packet error rate (PER) comparing to the conventional CF and CF-EVM with circular limitation assuming same PAPR. |
