A Study on Traffic Simulation Technique Directly Using Transition Probabilities
Kan Toyoshima (NTT) IN2009-45
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent, it becomes more general to deliver video and voice streams in IP networks. Delivering them is approaching from experimental demonstration to public broadcasting. Disorder of image or voice by packet loss has great impact even if it happens once an hour. Therefore, it is very important to know conditions that packet loss happens. There are theoretical/approximation calculation methods and Monte Carlo Simulation to forecast packet loss ratio, but the method of meeting both short calculation time and its accuracy was not able to be found in case of MMPP/D/1 model etc.
A new traffic simulation technique directly using transition probabilities is proposed in this paper. When traffic input is random and state transition is able to be shown by probabilities, proposed technique is computable at time that is shorter than Monte Carlo Simulation. Results in case of M/D/1 and MMPP/D/1 are reported in this paper.
