60-GHz band Electrically Steerable Reflectarray Antenna Using PIN Diode

(in English) A 60-GHz band electrically steerable reflectarray antenna has been investigated. Each reflecting element was printed on a dielectric substrate and had a rectangular microstrip patch and a stub loaded with a single PIN diode. The reflection phase was changed by 159° in accordance with the on/off state of the PIN diode; namely, the element worked as a single-bit phase shifter with simple structure. A reflectarray consisting of 40 × 40 elements spaced at 0.7λ was fabricated using the reflecting elements. The reflection coefficients of the elements, the radiation patterns, and the antenna gain were evaluated. Good agreement was observed between the results of the simulations and experiments and the reflectarray antenna using single bit phase shifters was confirmed to be able to electrically steer the antenna beam.
