A process called Triage is introduced in serious accidents and disasters nowadays. In Triage, doctors prioritize a large number of patients by quick checks of their vital signs such as heart rate and respiration rate. The goal of Triage is to save as many patients as possible.
In this paper, we describe problems in existing Triage and propose an electronic Triage system. Our Triage system enables automatic monitoring of vital signs, which is important to avoid "preventable death".
For this purpose, wireless sensors are attached to patients to measure their vital signs, and the measured vital signs are gathered up to a server via wireless sensor networks. In addition, our system provides several useful functions such as position estimation in order to assist rescue teams. |
