[Invited Talk] LDPC codes for the Advanced Digital Satellite Broadcasting Systems

(in English) The advanced satellite broadcasting system, which can improve the transmission capacity for future broadcasting services and has connectibility with communication network, was standardized as ARIB STD-B44 in Japan. Adopting LDPC code and a smaller roll-off factor =0.1), this system accomplished a 30% higher transmission capacity in comparison with the current ISDB-S system. In addition, the transmission capacity can be more increased by using multi-level amplitude phase shift keying (M-APSK) modulation. The new system adopts 5 types of modulation scheme, which consists of π/2 shift BPSK, QPSK and 8PSK modulations as well as 16APSK and 32APSK modulations. The LDPC codes adopted in this system have code ward length of 44,880 bits and LDGM(Low Density Generation Matrix) configuration as a form of Parity Check Matrix. The LDPC codes support 11 code rates. First, this report describes requirements for forward error correction scheme of the new system. Second, the transmission scheme of this system was introduced and we show the TDM frame architecture needed for the design of the LDPC codes. Third, we introduce a method of eliminating cycle 4 and cycle 6 in Parity Check Matrix and parameters of Parity Check matrices. Forth, the computer simulation results of BPSK, QPSK, and 8PSK performances under the AWGN channel model are reported. Finally, we discuss and report the optimization result gained from a computer simulation of the radius ratio of LDPC-coded 16APSK and 32APSK modulation, which is proposed in this system, with respect to Bit Error Rate under the AWGN channel model.
