This paper investigates the performance of simple full-length
array-type (SFA) LDPC codes, which are a basic subclass of
quasi-cyclic LDPC codes. The upper-bound limits of the optimum
(maximum-likelihood) performances of the codes are derived by making
use of our recent results on the number of minimum weight codewords of
SFA-LDPC codes. Since the bounds are derived analytically, we are able
to obtain an approximation of the substantial performance of the code
with an arbitrary code length. By comparing the bounds with the
empirical simulation results of an iterative decoding, this paper
discusses how good iterative decoding can perform for the SFA-LDPC
codes, and how code parameters affect the code rate and the error
performance of the code. |
