樹木の根に蓄積されるバイオマスを見積もるためには樹根の形状を計測する必要があるが、従来、非開削で計測することは難しかった。地中レーダ(GPR)を利用した樹根の計測は既に提案されているが、精度の高い計測は従来法では困難であった。我々はレーザ測位システムを利用した1mm精度の測位法をGPRに組み合わせた3DGPRシステムを利用して、根の計測を行った。商用500MHzアンテナを使ったGPRシステムを利用した計測を東北大学構内で実施し、地下30cm周囲に分布する根の水平的な広がりを明瞭に可視化できた。 |

Traditional approach used for roots biomass harvest (e.g., soil cores and trenches) provide reasonable accurate information but they are destructive in nature, labour intensive, and limited with respect to soil volume and surface area that can be assessed. Data derived from core samples and trenches for root extraction approaches are generally limited to root biomass averages across plots or treatments rather than information on root distribution. In this study 3D GPR which is a combination between commercial standard RAMAC GPR and rotary laser positioning system was used to acquire high density and full resolution image in order to evaluate the efficiency of 3D GPR for mapping tree root architecture in-situ. Two different types of trees were selected for tree root imaging target at two sites located in a public park of Tohoku University. Preliminary result using 500MHz shielded antenna with 5cm inline spacing shows successful detection for the main root in both test sites. Moreover, in the first site time slices illustrate that a lot of main roots as well as abundant of lateral roots in the top 30cm of the soil can be detected effectively around the trees. In summary, the presented results in this paper demonstrate the utility of the high density and full-resolution 3D GPR to image tree root systems. Moreover, information on roots in-situ shown here could be of a great value to soil and root scientists. |
