Measurement of inside a wall by polarimetric GB-SAR

(in English) Through wall radar system is useful in a rescue mission or detecting a contraband or dangerous object inside a wall. Through wall radar is based on Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) signal transmission because of its several inherent advantages such as penetrating ability, high resolution, immunity to multipath and simple architecture. In imaging a target inside a wall, some phenomena deteriorate the target image like the reflection from the wall surface or velocity variation of electromagnetic waves by permittivity of the wall. In this paper, the removal of the reflection from a wall is considered. By using the polarimetric SAR system, it is possible to filter acquired image according to the shape of the target. HV or VH polarizations have only converted reflections from a target, that is, the conversion of the vertical wave to the horizontal wave or the horizontal wave to the vertical wave. Since a plane wall cannot change the polarization of a wave, therefore, there is no reflection from a plane wall in HV or VH. In this paper, it is shown that only the image of the steel reinforcing that exists inside the wall by transforming of the polarimetric basis.
