[Poster Presentation] Performance Impact of User Bandwidth on Inter-ISP P2P Traffic

(in English) In P2P systems, peers construct their participating overlay network and exchange their required contents on it. Because an overlay network is constructed without so much caring about its underlying real network, overlay connection with peers in other ISPs can be established and causes inter-ISP traffic. Amount of inter-ISP P2P traffic reported to be significantly increasing. In BitTorrent which is now one of most popular P2P applications, its choking algorithm has tendency of maintaining connection to peers of similar upload capacities. In this paper, we evaluate relationship between user bandwidth distribution and amount of inter-ISP P2P traffic in BitTorrent. Our simulation results show that inter-ISP P2P traffic increases when ISPs have similar user bandwidth distribution.
