The importance of beacon design in WPANs lies in the competition for throughput between different piconets in the same area. Every Piconet Cooordinator (PNC) should protect the devices (DEVs) inside the piconet from outside interference. However increased protection results fewer possible piconets in an area and higher number of DEVs per piconet. In this work we will investigate the effect of the beacon range in terms of throughput using the example of 60 GHz WPANs. Based on our extensive simulation studies, we suggest using flexible beacon design according to the need of the system. |
