Network services with growing social graphs, such as social networking services (SNS), have been well recognized as a new powerful platform for information distribution and exchange among people. However, we are currently experiencing inactive contributions of the information from users though the services are quite capable of facilitating communication between users. The reason for this can be the fact that users incur psychological costs; they feel risk when they make their own information including private information open to public and experience stress to maintain their `online' relationships with their friends. One solution for this problem is to motivate users by giving rewards them when they contribute to the service. However, to our best knowledge, there has been no effort that deals with incentives for growing social networks. In this paper, we first model users' psychological factors related to SNS and how to grow the social graphs. We then propose a novel incentive mechanism for SNS and discuss the effective reward distribution method based on the model through a simulation evaluation. |
