Real-time zero disparity filter for moving objects based on spatiotemporal and disparity energy model on GPU

(in English) Disparity energy model and spatiotemporal energy model has been proposed as the models of depth and motion sensitivity of cells in early visual cortex. In present study, we constructed a zero-disparity filter based on disparity energy model, and applied it on movies recorded by a stereo camera. Firstly, moving regions in left and right images were detected by spatiotemporal energy model, and then coarse disparity was estimated based on the moving regions to reduce the amount of calculation for stereo matching and decrease the probability of stereo mismatch. Secondly, we applied the zero-disparity filter on the region. By calculating the disparity at which the output of the zero-disparity filter becomes maximal, we could detect the depth of moving objects. By using GPU for these processes, we enabled real-time execution. The application of this system would be pedestrian detection, obstacle avoidance, and etc. for car-mounted camera system and robotic vision.
