trategic Lateral Offset Procedures (SLOP) has been applied in an oceanic flight. SLOP allows pilots to select to fly not only on the defined route but also either 1 or 2 nautical mile right from the center line. Since recent aircraft are able to fly very accurately on the defined route, it is expected that the use of the SLOP can decrease a collision risk with other aircraft assigned to the same route. However, it cannot contribute the safety unless its use is distributed randomly. Currently, the use of the SLOP is in the hands of pilots, and they do not have to report it to air traffic center, so it is difficult to know about the current use of the SLOP. This paper proposes a method to identify the ratio of aircraft applying SLOP based on the stochastic analysis. |
