(in English) Broadband services by optical access networks started from the early 2000s. They have been popularized in the whole country by achieving high speed Internet access. Video distribution service using IP technologies increases rapidly, following Internet access and telephony services. This service set is referred to as “triple-play service,” now provided by most of the broadband network operators. Currently, study on next generation optical access system started to enhance both transmission rate and functionality in R&D fields as well as standard committees. Key issues of this system are increase of transmission rate at the affordable cost and creation of new services. This presentation surveys technical and standardization trends and discusses solution of these issues.
