Influence of cleaning effect by microbubbles under ultrasound field

This paper demonstrates cleaning effect of vibrating bubbles driven by ultrasound, based on optical observations of bubble behaviors and cleaning process using high-speed video camera. It is shown that a bubble cluster was formed after the collapse of the initial bubble. The bubble cluster consisted of a main bubble and many small bubbles. We observed that vibration of these microbubbles removed thin ink firm from sample surface. We investigated relationship between amplitude of bubble vibration and cleaning effect. As a result, it was confirmed that the cleaning area increased with an increase in the amplitude of bubble vibration, though cleaning area was poorly correlated with bubble vibration. It was indicated that this poor correlation is related to the distance between bubble and sample surface. These results suggested that this distance is important factor of ultrasonic cleaning in addition to bubble vibration. |
